| May 27, 2011: Scott Cleary spoke to Capital's first class of HIT GraduatesScott Cleary, Program Director for eHealthConnecticut, spoke to Capital’s first class of HIT graduates at their ceremony on May27. “In my 30 years in the healthcare industry, I have never seen such an opportunity for workers skilled in Health Information Technology,” Cleary said. He continued: “The federal government is investing $2 billion to help the nation’s physicians adopt Electronic Health Records systems, and to link those systems so that providers can see the whole picture for their patients, enabling them to enhance their care. Capital’s graduates are well positioned to participate in this program, where the goal is nothing short of transforming a massive, growing industry.”
Selected by the federal Office of the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology as Connecticut’s Regional Extension Center, eHealthConnecticut received a $6.4 million, four year grant to help the state’s primary care providers achieve “meaningful use” of Electronic Health Records systems. eHealthConnecticut is partnering with Capital Community College to help develop their education program and to help graduates find jobs. Working with physicians and hospitals every day, eHealthConnecticut is in a unique position to understand the needs of provider organizations, and where they need skilled workers. |
| Pilot Program Tests Data SharingCommunity health centers, physicians, and local hospitals in three communities will begin sharing patient data next month in connection with a Health Information Exchange project funded by the Connecticut Department of Social Services. The pilot will show how different Electronic Health Records systems can interoperate with each other via eHealthConnecticut's HIE platform. It also will demonstrate a new patient consent process and a common data sharing agreement. |
